I’m 8 weeks PP and just gave in and bought an Artipoppe carrier. In the first few weeks of my baby’s life I went through 4 different carriers – Solly, Kyte, Ergo & Tula (gifted and hand me downs). Every single one either baby or I was uncomfortable or unhappy in some way—baby would fuss as soon as I put him in, or I ended up with a super sore back after an hour.I kept seeing the referral codes on every mom group I was in and, in a weak MOTN moment, gave in and bought an Artipoppe. I’ll preface by saying I describe myself as a ~Maxxinista~ and very rarely buy designer or otherwise splurge-y items. It’s been a week with my Artipoppe and I fully believe the hype (and price) is worth it. And I truly didn’t want to like it. Baby hasn’t fussed one time while in it, I wore him on a 2 mile walk without a sore back, and I actually feel GOOD wearing it, like I’m wearing a beautiful accessory—it looks amazing and is much better quality than any of my others. The waist band is generous and offers nice support, and unlike some of the others I can easily put it on/off by myself.I appreciate that you can achieve the same outcome with a different, much more affordable carrier. And that for some splurging on an unnecessary baby item isn’t an option. But if a purchase like this is within your means and you’ve been on the fence about purchasing like I was.. I say go for it! They’re so beautiful. I’m happy to answer any questions about my [albeit short] experience with it.And yes, I have a referral code if you’d like 🤠 message me! via /r/pregnant https://ift.tt/etk6spu

I’ve wondered about ageism quite a lot over the years. I started 22 years ago at age 32. Over that time, I’ve transitioned from “webmaster” to web developer to backend software engineer. The hardest thing to adapt to, so far, was going from monolithic full-stack “websites” to distributed architecture. Thankfully, I comfortably made it over that hump after a few years with a company that gave me the opportunities to build things and guide me as needed. Moving from language to language has been easy, I’ve worked in Cold Fusion, Perl, PHP, Python and Javascript (front end and Node). The last few times I set out on a job search, I deleted all but the last 7 yoe from my resume, because I was afraid that including all of it was causing my resume to be passed over by ageist recruiters. This time, I decided to keep everything, but I condensed my first 12 yoe into one summarized section to keep it readable and only show relevant skills.I’m 54, 22 y.o.e. and just completed a job search that took all of 3 weeks, and that was during the holidays, a time when supposedly nobody is hiring, and amidst the tech layoffs that left 10’s of thousands of FAANG engineers available to compete with. It is fully remote, so I am also competing with the whole country, not just locally. The new job is a new stack for me, I’m moving from PHP to Node. I had built some projects with it for my freelance work and at my last job, but now it becomes my main stack and not just side projects. I crushed all my interviews, which were at companies that valued experience and did not do any Leetcode style testing. Within that 3 week period, I had my pick of offers and made a 30k salary jump from my last job.So, for older folks who worry, if you love your career, you can keep it as long as you like. As for the younger folks: hang in there, kids, you can look forward to finally kicking ass when you get older. 🙂 But, for the love of god, get the hell off my lawn! via /r/webdev https://ift.tt/aJQT269

This is from a dad’s perspective. Not saying this is the best for everyone, but it’s what I wish I would have known going in.get a bassinet with wheels, a vibrate function and a light.Don’t buy a bunch of bottles of all one kind or what you want to use. Your baby will choose the nipple style they like.Nanit pro is a great camera. The nightlight, sound machine option, 2 way audio, and alerts are great. (Have not used the breathing band yet).Halo sleepsack swaddlers are a lifesaver for us. Get 2 or 3 not just one.3 or 4 pacifers are not enough. Your baby will be spitting them out and you can never catch them. Like bottles your baby will choose what pacifer he wants. We use the Philips advent ones. I’ve also decided I love the leash for the pacifer and will clip it onto me or his outfit when I’m up walking around with him.Get a sterilizer. Bigger the better imo.I wish we would have gotten a double wide dresser. The top of ours only fits the changing pad.Skinny baby’s we have found pampers works the best for us. Can’t comment on chubby baby’s yet but it seems like Huggies. If you’re pumping get 3 or 4 sets of parts. No one wants to wash parts at 3am.2 way zipper clothes. Fuck snaps. Enough said.Wipe warmers are a godsend. Anything to prevent my baby from screaming during the diaper change. Oh and about diaper changes. Go AS FAST AS YOU CAN. And frill out those things around the legs. Open up two diapers before you start instead of one.Burping. It’s not so much about the pats as it is pressing their abdomen to your chest and slowly moving their head to your shoulder. This is just what I came up with real quick at a fun 3am feeding. via /r/pregnant https://ift.tt/vp6Q4nk

It’s a story written so perfectly, and performed so well by the reader, your suspension of disbelief hits you soon after you’ve started. It’s not the narrator of a book you bought reading an authors words. It’s a flesh and blood man telling you his life story in the dark of a recording booth. In my opinion at least, it helps that Kingsolver wrote it in the first person. It’s the story of rural poverty and how it traps people and whole families, how drug addiction devastates a community, how cruel men can prey upon and destroy the women trapped in that world. It’s all heavy stuff. Heavier then I usually like. But Kingsolver’s prose and her main characters sharp, poignant, and often hilarious observations balance out the misery. It’s set in West Virginia, in a small rural community once known for its principal business of mining. And though I’m a few states up I found myself nodding silently through a lot of it. I live in a city haunted by the ghost of its former industry. I’ve seen the absolutely incredible, overworked, exhausted women holding together their families as best they can. It felt like something you could see in New York or PA as well.TLDR: check this book out via /r/audiobooks https://ift.tt/09W6IKB

In this first scene, which is less than 3 minutes, we learn everything we need to know about this movie. We learn who the two main characters are (Evan and Seth). We learn what the tone of the movie is going to be (raunchy and hilarious with a lot of explicit sexual talk). We learn the personalities of the two main characters (Seth is very direct and crass, Evan a bit more cerebral). We learn the main conflict of the movie (that Seth and Evan are best friends graduating high school and will not be attending the same college). The setup for the core of the film is concise and entirely complete, and from there it’s just a non-stop laugh riot.First scene for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBRJz6eRT1I via /r/movies https://ift.tt/YTCwSAJ
