Question for couples.. how do you handle finances in the home and does the mortgage get split ?

So I was having a debate with my friend (we’re both 21 and not looking to move anytime soon), he says he doesn’t want his girlfriend to have any financial responsibility and he’ll handle every bill in case anything goes wrong and they split or divorce later in life. Me on the other hand, I believe finances should include both partners as we’ll have a life together.
