The ultimate April Fool. And May Fool. And June Fool. And July Fool. Sigh. The announcement about the announcement for the announcement sounds like whatever he says today, I won’t be taking it seriously. The incompetence is unreal. Elliott getting the AstraZeneca shot to encourage others only to have Ford call it a gamble hours later shows the total disconnect even within their own party. If they can’t even get themselves on the same page, it’s no wonder why the rest of the province is totally lost on what the hell is going on.Enjoy today’s joke of a news conference. Like pretty much everything Ford does, good luck figuring out if it’s for real or a Beaverton article. via /r/ontario https://ift.tt/3ue1HfW

Ever since the start of the second wave, the majority of cases have been in deprived areas of Toronto and Peel, most probably contracted at work. And “work” for these areas are often industrial workplaces. In the 16 Toronto neighbourhoods hardest hit by COVID, between 11 and 25% of residents work in manufacturing; by comparison, the city average is 8%. The manufacturing sector is heavily reliant on lower-income workers and temp agency workers, many of whom live in the city’s northwest.Peel’s robust manufacturing and industrial sector, which is largely centred in Brampton, has accounted for 39.7% of the 204 total workplace outbreaks in the region since the start of the pandemic. The next closest sector is retail, which accounts for 13.7% of workplace outbreaks. And let’s not forget how just one Amazon warehouse had 600 cases and one Canada Post facility had 273 cases in just the month of January.I’m tired of all the whining about picnics at the park or people’s weekend parties, and I’m especially tired of Doug Ford and Dr. Williams instituting policies gutting small businesses while giving zero support to factory/essential workers, like paid sick leave, or even expedited vaccine spots. If you’re not talking about the role of manufacturing in Ontario’s covid cases, then you’re not talking about the truth. via /r/toronto https://ift.tt/3uguFMb

Folks, as we discussed yesterday, we should start a petition and ask Federal Minister Ahmed Hussen to apologize for what he said about Canada housing. (this – https://ift.tt/3sJ0WuG come up with a draft version of the petition – leave your comments or suggestions below or edit directly on Google docs ! (link below)After we finalize the petition, we will start something similar to what we did before (https://www.change.org/p/recognize-the-housing-affordability-crisis-in-canada?utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=custom_url&recruited_by_id=00a14c50-82e3-11eb-a198-9f0aaef485b2)Mods please pin this to the top:/u/longslowclap/u/Jefe1990/u/mrshawarma—————————— DRAFT BEGINS HEREFederal Minister Ahmed Hussen Needs to Apologize to All Canadians for His Comments on Canada HousingCanada’s housing market is on fire again. And this time, it is not only limited to big metropolitan centers, but also small towns and cities such as Hamilton and Moncton. Many are expressing concerns of unsustainable price growth and speculation, and have warned about potential risks. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]However, in an interview with CBC about the housing issue, Federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and the Minister responsible for CMHC – Mr. Ahmed Hussen says he believes home ownership is “still within reach for many Canadians and in the majority parts of the country.” And “It is also fine to live in a rental unit and that’s OK as well. There’s nothing wrong with that.”Such comments are astonishingly tone deaf to say the least. A National Bank of Canada report shows that saving for a down payment for a Canadian home has never been worse [8]. And young families often find themselves trapped in bidding wars, with their first home more and more out of reach, even in small towns and cities [9] [10]. However, Mr. Ahmed Hussen seems to be totally unaware of this situation, which could signal that the political elites in Ottawa are now completely out of touch from the people they’re supposed to represent. Or, he could be well informed of such a situation, but still chose to say what he said. Either way, this would potentially result in a huge negative impact on the credibility of the current government.Renting is fine if and only if renting versus owning is just a choice of lifestyle. However, that is far from the truth. In Canada, the capital gain from people’s primary residence is tax free, and that has made primary residence the most important investment an everyday Canadian can have in their lifetime. The COVID shock and government’s Quantitative Easing program have led to a steep appreciation in asset value. Based on a report from BNNBloomberg, in the pandemic economic downturn that has caused 3 million Canadians to lose their jobs, Canada’s national household net worth has surprisingly jumped by more than $600 billion, and the main contributor is the value of land and residential structures held by households [11]. This has created an enormous widening wealth gap between people who own housing and people who don’t. As the Federal Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, rather than trying to solve the inequality issue, Mr. Ahmed Hussen’s comments seem to be trying to legitimize the existing wealth gap and encourage people at a disadvantage to simply accept the status quo.As the Minister responsible for CMHC, Mr. Ahmed Hussen’s comments would clearly be well received by market participants and possibly be further interpreted. This may be seen as a form of “government endorsement” or even “government encouragement” to the current price growth, which has been viewed as “exuberant” and “unsustainable” by many sources [12][13][14]. It could pose as a potential risk to further fuel market sentiment and lead to unexpected consequences. Therefore, we demand Mr. Ahmed Hussen to come forward and present a detailed explanation of why he said what he said, and publicly apologize to all Canadians for his imprudent comments.Complete draft with Google docs link:https://ift.tt/2Od60Zx via /r/canadahousing https://ift.tt/3ufshW2

Hi there,I’m in the process of upgrading a large legacy codebase and looking to move it to DI to help with testing and having it less coupled. Each class requires a user ID specified (for permission and record keeping requirements)My plan is to do something like:public class A:IA { private int UserId { get; set; } private readonly IB LogicClass { get; set; } public A(int userId) : this (userId, new B(userId)) { } public A(int userId, IB logicClass) { UserId = userId; LogicClass = logicClass; } } public class B:IB { private int UserId { get; set; } public B(int userId) : this (userId, new C(userId)) { } public B(int userId, IC logicClass) { UserId = userId; LogicClass = logicClass; } } etc etc…Now, I’m new to DI so still learning it. But my understanding is constructor based DI is a valid option.Firstly: Am I right in my thoughts around this as an option? There are a LOT of existing classes that need to be converted, so hope to have a good plan before starting it.Secondly, if this is a correct way of doing it, how would it work if (in an extended example above) class C has a requirement of class A? Wouldn’t that create a circular reference that would just create stack overflows? (Constructor of class A, creates a class B that then creates a class A, which then creates a class B etc etc)Thanks in advance, I’m still new to this so learning as I go 🙂 via /r/dotnet https://ift.tt/3cFWG9Z

I could really use some advice here – I feel like I’ve gone down quite a few paths here but haven’t found a solution that makes sense.I am primarily a front-end developer, but am fairly familiar with .net development. I’ve been assigned to a project helping update the front end for a large solution, but I can’t seem to find the correct way to implement some newer front end practices. My ultimate goal is to use webpack so we can use latest JS, modularization, and SCSS, but I would like to add a watcher for JS files and SCSS files that runs webpack when needed – all simple enough by itself, and I can obviously just run everything in background, but it seems like the correct implementation would be to add to the build process.I’ve tried several routes, from adding scripts to the build steps, adding target and exec to .csproj, but because node is running a watcher, the build won’t go past the node step, since it never exits.Little help is much appreciated! via /r/dotnet https://ift.tt/31yrNhe

Was concerned about privacy for a while but went and bit the bullet.Glad i did, man that process is so damn simple.I like how they expose the actual grids to you in the main UI , it forces you to really think about what each box means in terms of taxes and where money is going. only gripe i have that instead of just putting a number beside box (and having to put cursor over number to get its indication… have an option to put a small text above box with the full description)In Turbotax, a lot of that is hidden and in the end makes the whole process more opaque and confusing. (having to file extra quebec stuff and sync it across provincial borders a nightmare sometimes)Maybe this would be different if operating a small business, but for now, onwards and upwards. via /r/PersonalFinanceCanada https://ift.tt/3rGfnyk

Around the 1950s, the label Soundmark Records put out quite a few records of authors and poets reading their work, including James Baldwin, Robert Frost, Ezra Pound, Sylvia Plath, William Carlos Williams, E.E. Cummings, T.S. Eliot, William Butler Yeats, Langston Hughes and more. The recordings include a mix of excerpts of novels and poetry.Last year I discovered some albums of 20th century writers reciting their work and eventually I came across these albums. I recently realized that there were a huge volume of these Soundmark recordings, but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to find them all in one place, so I searched for as many as I could find and compiled them into this playlist. (I’m not sure how many I may be missing, so if you know of any albums I should add, feel free to comment them here or send me a message and I’ll add it!)I’ve been really enjoying listening to these writers reading their own words, and I find it’s interesting to hear their different accents and inflections and how lyrically or flatly they individually speak. It’s like discovering another dimension to the written work, since you’re not only experiencing the words of the author but you’re actually hearing the words spoken in their own voice with all their own unique inflections and articulations. I would be interested to know what all your thoughts are on this, and whether you think it adds or takes away from the experience of these texts.LINK: It looks like the link keeps getting auto removed, so you’ll have to search for the title on Spotify. “Purgatory is a CRA hold line” – that’s never been more true as for the third day in a row, the CRA line has disconnected me just after 3 hours of holding. It seems like a problem with their system where it auto-disconnects after a set time.My partner needs a CRA code to access his account, but we’ve moved in the interim and they won’t resend to the new address. The only option available seems to be calling, but I can’t keep wasting 3 hours of my life on hold each day listening to that damn music.I’m debating calling my MP about this, because I feel like I don’t have any other options. There’s nothing wrong with that,” Hussen, the minister of Families, Children and Social Development, who is responsible for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, told Galloway.THIS FUCKING GUY!!Story link -> https://ift.tt/3ftxghG comments, to me, are a breaking point. You can’t go through three months of the fastest and most out-of-whack price appreciation in this country’s history, with prices rising $100,000 to $200,000 and bidding wars running wild, and then have the minister in charge of housing give his first real comments on the issue and that comment is “GO FUCKING RENT.”ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME.They were silent on this issue for months. Now I know why. THEY DON’T GIVE A FUCK.I had hope, you guys. I really did. I hoped that, in normal times, unaffordable housing was bad but tolerable for them. But this time it was different, this time housing went too far and they would make some tough decisions. But no. Nothing. “Go rent.”The Bank of Canada is against us.Tiff Macklem is against us.CMHC is against us.Every realtor is against us.Homeowners are against us.Ahmed fucking Hussen is against us.The leadership is against us.The opposition is against us.The fucking NDP is against us.With all that in mind, where the fuck do we turn?
