AMA Starts at 7:00pm EST!Edit: Okay – let’s do thisEdit 2: Well that’s it for now. Thank you everyone for the thoughtful questions, I did my best to answer thoroughly and thoughtfully. I know this group is apolitical and I sincerely thank you for having me tonight – I’m looking forward to continue supporting your movement and taking Adam Vaughan to task on housing policy. If anybody would like to discuss the housing crisis with me, I’m all ears and always available at [amanda.rosenstock@greenparty.ca](mailto:amanda.rosenstock@greenparty.ca). I’ll try to reply to some more questions in the morning. Goodnight and thanks for the discourse!Hi everyone! As a long time fan and supporter of this movement, I’m excited to take a break from hitting the phones to be here tonight! There’s A LOT I’d like to say in this post about the affordability crisis but I’ll try to hold back and save it for the Q+A. The housing crisis in Canada has gotten out of hand and I’m ready to challenge our elected officials on their inactions so far.My position is simple: housing is a human right, and we must immediately enact policy that reflects this. As a Green I’m fighting for Ecological, Social, and Economic justice. The housing crisis bridges all 3 and it’s making people feel hopeless. We’re not here to listen to why I’m a Green though, we’re here to talk housing, which is compounding inequality in Canada at record rates. You want solutions? I’ve got some actionable ideas to get the discussion started:Aggressive policy-driven commitments to prioritize single-family homes as primary residencesBringing back tax incentives that will help developers build more purpose-built rentalsProvide sustainable capital investments for supportive housing to end chronic homelessnessImmediate creation and enforcement of effective AML regulations in the Canadian Housing MarketI have plenty more, from deconstructing the bidding process in home sales to zoning bylaw enhancements, but those aren’t up to the government of Canada. This crisis falls on all levels of government working together and I will continue to advocate for strong federal policy which will enable success at the other levels. We need to ditch the populism and start putting people-first in politics because our system is cracking along party lines, and Canadians will once again be left to pick up the tab.We can get this done, Canada. And it starts with open, respectful, and honest political discourse like this. Hey guys, I found this gravestone today and I can’t really figure out what It’s made out of, it looks like plants covered in cement, but its from 1800s. Maybe someone has an idea what this type of stone is called or how they were made. via /r/gravestone https://ift.tt/3hRG9lR

I assume you cannot handle this as a bug so I wonder how these areas of technical debt are fed back into the Agile Scrum process as they would also not be part of any Epic, Feature, User Story / Product Backlog item. via /r/dotnet https://ift.tt/3wINt7z

If your team is using an Agile Scrum process with developers doing one task after another. How do handle the case where a developer notices an area of code that could be improved upon which is outside the scope of the work he is currently doing.

Before you read the headline and attempt to downvote me to oblivion, consider a few things:The federal government has released guidance for vaccinated individuals, basically saying it’s safe to do whatever you want without masks. They say to consider continuing to wear a mask if you’re immunocompromised or have underlying conditions.Everywhere in the world with comparable vaccine procurement (notice how I said procurement and not rates, looking at you 🇺🇸) has far less restrictions than us. Step 3 is a good start, but we are still far more restricted than people in BC, Alberta, Europe, and the US.We have one of the highest vaccine rates in the world! 80% of our eligible population has one shot, we’re closing in on 60% with 2!! (We probably have already hit it tbh, I haven’t looked at these numbers in a while)When your entire population (that could be harmed) by covid has the option to get two shots, that’s the best the government can do. “You can lead the horse to the water, but you can’t make him drink”. Anti-vaxxers are going to be stupid, we can’t force them to get a shot.Catching covid when you’re fully vaccinated isn’t a big deal. The CDC tracks breakthrough cases (in 48 states) of C19 in the US. As of July 6th, there were 5186 breakthrough cases that led to hospitalization or death after being fully vaccinated. The number of people fully vaccinated in the US is 157 million. This math yields a 0.003% chance of dying or being hospitalized from C19 after vaccination. To conclude, I want to clarify something: COVID-19 is a serious disease. There’s a reason why the WHO declared it a global pandemic. If you haven’t already, go get vaccinated. I am double vaccinated myself. But now that a majority of our eligible population is double vaccinated, it’s time to relax a bit about covid. It’s dangerous to unvaccinated people, yes. But if you’re vaccinated, you are safe. We can safely reopen, we can safely loosen way more restrictions than we already have. I hope for some of you, this helps – I just want to return to normal 🙂EDIT: I’m seeing a lot of downvotes (as expected), and I’d love to hear why. I think the discussion about covid anxiety and Ontario’s level of restrictions has become somewhat taboo, if you lean too far either way you’re often easily labelled. If this post offended you, or you felt the need to downvote it, please let me know why 🤝 Id love to talk about it with you👍 via /r/ontario https://ift.tt/3eJucgf

Long time lurker here, I just wanted to share my story and let you guys know that imo the grass is definitely greener on the other side. It took us 21 months before we became homeowners after moving from ontario. My girlfriend and I are civil engineers and live in Wisconsin, USA. We moved here after I lost my job in ontario in 2019. Wisconsin is a beautiful place but it definitely wouldn’t have been either of ours first choice 😅We kind of moved here on a whim tbh but it’s nice here, the people are nice, the weather and terrain feel like northern ontario. It doesn’t feel too far away from home except the people are alot more conservative and love their guns. I am a visible minority and I really do not feel unsafe ever. I’ve had two interactions with the cops both for speeding and they were both professional. The visa process was extremely easy, I have a TN visa and it allows me to live and work and invest in the US. It took my girlfriend about 3 weeks to find a job with comparable pay and benefits.I had another job on the table but this one in the US would pay me 40% more if you converted in $cad. My cost of living is definitely less then half of what it would be in ontario if we still lived there. We have a 1200 sqft 2 bed 2 bath in an upstairs condo/townhouse style apartment with a garage and naturey views with tons of birds and wildlife that we pay $1079 for. We just closed on a 3bed/2bath for just over 300k.If you’re young, have a degree that’s compatible with nafta, it’s definitely worth considering moving down here (or up here in my case). If you have a decent job, you’re going to have good healthcare coverage, it’s more confusing that in Canada but it’s nots as Draconian as people make it out to be. There are alot more incentives and opportunities in the US then in Canada imo. There’s real industry not just a speculative housing bubble…I’m sorry if it sounds like I am bragging but Canada’s housing is not sustainable and heavily manipulated imo. This can’t last and there’s a whole generation mission out on housing.. politicians don’t want to address it and eventually more and more people are going to do what I did … Leave.TLDR: girlfriend and I moved to the US and within 2 years we became homeowners via /r/canadahousing https://ift.tt/3yJqKJY
