Like the title says . . .I am an anxious mom looking to take my 8 MO to an open swim night at a pool down the street, possibly on my own. We could walk or drive. I’m wondering things like -Do you put them in swimsuit before? I’m assuming you change them there because of swim diapers. What kind of swim diapers do you use?Where do you set them down when you’re changing or have to go to the bathroom?Do you like wearing them in the water or just holding them?I know some of these things are personal preference and age-dependent. I just can’t wrap my mind around this but really want to try. I realize this post may sound silly but OH WELL! Thanks in advance 😊❤️ via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/G8pUnws

My 10.5 mo old was constipated for about 2 weeks. It stressed me out and hurt me to see him struggle. I tried a suppository but that was just temporary relief. I tried purée prunes, pears, and peaches. None of it made him regular. The doctors were not much help so I kept reading and researching. Ripe kiwi with a little skin left on cut up pieces and dragon fruit helped my baby! Most of the fiber is in the skin of fruit. Also 4-8oz of water daily. Every morning I have him take a few sips of water as soon as he wakes up and then we eat breakfast. Drinking water on an empty stomach is beneficial for organs. I drink it every morning as well. Fiber can’t work properly without an adequate amount of water! He’s not constipated anymore! I wanted to share this with new parents who are struggling with a constipated baby. via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/doAzvGQ

Every time they put the CPAP Nasal Cannulas in it horrifies me with the size of it. Based on my daughters reaction my horror feels justified… The most painstaken screams I ever hear from her, and then her eyes start watering. When I go home at night I still hear her screams. It’s most heartbreaking that she feels the discomfort when I do Kangaroo care. I feel she think’s I’m betraying her by causing her so much discomfort, and I shouldn’t hold her when she has the nasal cannula in. They say the full mask might put an indent on her face, but what about the indent of psychological trauma that such pain leaves on the brain? I’m so worried she will develop an anxiety disorder 🙁 I wish they would use the high flow, smaller nasal prongs and switch back and forth from high flow to full mask CPAP… How have you coped with this scenario?? via /r/NICUParents https://ift.tt/Cm9dnlf

I’m still coming down from what happened today, and trying to make sense of everything. My 12 month old son was standing by me while I sat on the couch, and I was eating a breakfast sandwich. My son is a bit of a scavenger when we eat in front of him, so my husband and I will break him off tiny pieces of our food for him to have. I was doing just that with some of the cheese, when I gave him a very tiny piece his face became blank and he started starring off, then all of a sudden he went limp and his head tilted back. I immediately thought he was choking, so I started doing back blows, but nothing was coming up so I flipped him over as I was calling 911. His eyes were rolled in the back of his head and he turned blue and started foaming at the mouth. I can’t remember if he was making any noise at this point, or convulsing as I was trying to care for him and speak to 911. About 2-3 minutes in he came to and started crying and was also extremely confused. The hospital thinks he may have choked on the cheese and the lack of oxygen threw him into a seizure, or it was a febrile seizure, since he had a slight temp the other day, but were a bit cautious to say that was the case since he didn’t have a fever at the hospital or at all today. To say I am traumatized is an understatement. I was home alone when this all happened and ran to a neighbors house after calling 911 with him. I know I did everything correct, and baby is fine now but I can’t help to feel I failed him. We still don’t have concrete proof of what it was and I’m terrified it will happen again. One thing is for sure though I will NEVER feed him outside of his highchair now. via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/ZJpdz0W

Here’s 32 things I’ve learned that I hope help you in your journey:It’s usually better to be nice than right.Nothing worthwhile comes easy. Work on a passion project, even just 30 minutes a day. It compounds.Become a lifelong learner (best tip).Working from 7am to 7pm isn’t productivity. It’s guilt. To be really successful become useful.Like houses in need of repair, problems usually don’t fix themselves.Envy is like drinking poison expecting the other person to die.Don’t hold onto your “great idea” until it’s too late.People aren’t thinking about you as much as you think. Being grateful is a cheat sheet for happiness. (Especially today.)Write your life plan with a pencil that has an eraser. Choose your own path or someone will choose it for you.Never say, I’ll never…Not all advice is created equal.Be the first one to smile. The expense of something special is forgotten quickly. The experience lasts a lifetime. Do it.Don’t say something to yourself that you wouldn’t say to someone else. It’s not how much money you make. It’s how much you take home.Feeling good is better than that “third” slice of pizza.Who you become is more important than what you accomplish. Nobody gets to their death bed and says, I’m sorry for trying so many things. There are always going to be obstacles in your life. Especially if you go after big things. The emptiest head rattles the loudest. If you don’t let some things go, they eat you alive.Try to spend 12 minutes a day in quiet reflection, meditation, or prayer.Try new things. If it doesn’t work out, stop. At least you tried.NEVER criticize, blame, or complain.  You can’t control everything. Focus on what you can control. If you think you have it tough, look around. It’s only over when you say it is.One hand washes the other and together they get clean. Help someone else.If you’re lucky enough to get up to my age, the view becomes more clear. It may seem like nothing good is happening to you, or just the opposite. Both will probably change over time. I’m still working (fractionally), and posting here, because business and people are my mojo. I hope you find yours. Onward!Louie📌Please add something you know to be true. We learn together. via /r/lifehacks https://ift.tt/4XShYHp

Wondering what everyone did or is doing for their LOs 1st birthday. Any traditions? Special things you have planned? What did you do during the party if you had one?We are having a tiny party because we have a small family (and both sets of grandparents will be in Florida 🤦‍♀️) and keeping it to close friends. I’m making a birthday plate for him to use every year, doing a yearly interview on camera (this year sitting him down and my husbands going to voice him all silly like), smash cake photos, writing him a letter/email about his first year. Thinking’s about it making him a box of first year treasures and a baby book – haven’t done any of that because too mentally taxing lol. via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/IkVv95x

I (44m) have been married to my wife (39f) for just over 20 years. We get along very well and we both care for each other very much. I can truly say she is my best and closest friend, and I know we can both trust each other with anything. We have so much shared history together and we have each been there for each other through hard times and good times. Right now, we are financially comfortable and we both work full time. She is wfh and I commute about 40 min each way. We also have two kids, 20(f) & 18(m), who are in college but still live at home, and we are paying their tuition. For the first five years or so, we were both very physically affectionate each other and had sex all the time. Even with small children, our sex lives were healthy. After a while, I guess things got busier for us both. We still had sex regularly, but it was less spontaneous and mostly on the weekends. It stayed like that for years. But, around 3 or 4 years ago, things slowed down A LOT. It got to where she was only interested if she was ovulating or on her period, and no other time. Then, after a while, it got to be less and less frequent, to the point where it was like only 5 to 7 times per year. For me, the lack of physical intimacy was excruciating. When I would talk about it with her, she would say that she still finds me attractive, and that I’m not doing anything to turn her off. She let me know that she isn’t put off by my pursuits and typically feels flattered when show an interest. That said: I was still being rejected about 19 out of 20 times. I got to a point where I was just unable to reconcile the sexual rejections & lack of physical intimacy against the rest of our otherwise wonderful relationship. Then, one day, something just snapped inside me, and I decided I couldn’t live with this kind of turmoil anymore. So, in a sort-of hail Mary to save my sanity, I decided to try something new. I started to make myself think of her the same way I think of my friends and co-workers: any time I found myself thinking of her sexually, I would tell myself, “No. That thought is inappropriate.” And then I would quickly engage in something else to occupy my mind. At first, it was difficult. After a few months I trained my brain to think of my wife as more of a “friend” and not to entertain sexual thoughts of her at all. During this time (about 5 months), she seemed completely oblivious to it. Recently, however, she tried to come on to me, and I rejected her. I wasn’t rude or anything, but I honestly just wasn’t in the mood (probably for the first time in decades, lol!). She wasn’t thrilled, but she seemed ok about it. The next day was a Saturday, and she was obviously feeling amorous, but I still wasn’t feeling up to it. Not that I couldn’t have, but it somehow just seemed like a step down for my self respect and self worth–like I would suddenly be no better than a dog waiting for scraps or Oliver Twist begging for another cup of gruel. It just didn’t feel right. I never said of that; I just politely turned her down and said I had some other things I was planning to do, which was actually true. That night, I found her crying in our bedroom. When I asked her what was wrong, she said it felt as through I didn’t love her anymore and that rejecting her really hurt her feelings. I assured her that I still love her as much as ever, but I did take the opportunity to explain how I had been feeling and how I was dealing with it. She did NOT take it well. She yelled, and cried, and accused me of cheating. She said I was being unfair to her and basically insinuated that if I didn’t want sex then there must be something wrong with her or with me, that I must be planning to leave her, or I’m hiding something. I was completely forthright with her and tried to get her to understand my position. I told her that it felt demoralizing for me to wait around like a concubine for months for her to be in the mood, and that it is time for me to start working on me. I honestly have no plans to leave her, and I told her so. But I also told her that I don’t have the ability to be a sometimes lover and it would eventually take an enormous toll on me. She accused me of throwing her sexually in her face and said she can’t help the way she is. I told her that I DO accept her for who she is, but I also need to be accepted for who I am. From there, it just seems like we talked in circles for the next 2 hours.Since then, she’s barely said a word to me, and it’s been about a week. I’m really starting to doubt myself and my actions here, and I’m starting to wonder if I really am wrong. via /r/amiwrong https://ift.tt/L5p6zrf

So far my LO (8 months) doesn’t tolerate the chewy texture of scrambled eggs, but I wanted him to get choline in his diet. I now make him baked custard regularly, which he absolutely gobbles down. I took an online dessert custard recipe and cut the sugar in half, though obviously you could completely omit it if you’re concerned about sugar intake.2 whole eggs2 cups whole milk1/4 tsp salt (optional)1/8 cup white sugar (optional)1/2 tsp non alcoholic vanilla extract (optional)1/8 tsp ground nutmeg or other spice (optional)1 tablespoon avocado oil (or other healthy oil)Whisk the eggs in a bowl with the avocado oil.Slowly heat the milk in a double boiler to 180°F using a instant read thermometer, stirring constantly. Or microwave in a glass container in 15 second intervals, stirring and checking the temp each time. This “scalding” of the milk is optional, but it should make a smoother texture.Slowly pour the hot milk into the eggs while mixing with a whisk. Add whatever spices you feel comfortable with. Add the salt and sugar. Mix well.Pour the custard into 4 oven safe ramekins or a small baking dish and bake on 350 for 30-40 minutes, checking for doneness after 30 minutes. You can use a water bath (boiled water in a larger pan, surrounding the ramekins), but I have not found it makes a huge difference. The custard is done when the liquid forms a jiggly gel, a butter knife comes out clean, and the temp inside reaches 160° F.Chill and serve cold or warm. Freeze any custard that will not be eaten in 5 days.Notes:Use whole milk. Babies need all the fat they can get! Giving your baby low fat milk or yogurt is pointless and will not help them maintain a healthy weight now or later in life.Giving a baby sugar isn’t recommended because some studies have linked early sugar intake to later obesity. I don’t personally believe this, and think the research probably found a specious link between parents who give their kids a poor diet in general to their later obesity.Use non alcoholic vanilla if you’re worried about the alcohol not cooking out.Adding a healthy oil isn’t necessary, but again, babies need all the fats they can get.Fresh ground nutmeg is AMAZING compared to pre-ground, plus ground spices may contain lead (google baby applesauce lead). Other spice substitutions include cinnamon, cardamom, allspice or cloves. While the custard can be frozen, it will lose some liquid when it thaws since ice crystals puncture the protein matrix which holds the milk in a colloid. This recipe can be cut in half, using 1 egg, 1 cup milk and 2 ramekins if you’re worried about making too much. via /r/NewParents https://ift.tt/fYynCOx

It’s been 2 months since I fully weaned and I went through the worst hormonal crash, the worst experience of my life. Doctors don’t know what’s happening to me, blood tests showed all healthy numbers, my thyroid is fine, no diabetes, no deficiencies, blood pressure is great, heart function is great. The only thing that’s responsible for my health issues was caused by weaning. My recommendation is DONT wean. Let your child decide when to wean, I weaned my first at 3.5 years and never went through any of this. It was a very gradual process led by her. via /r/breastfeeding https://ift.tt/tfEBykv
