I think the critic rating was abysmally wrong. Imo this movie is a masterpiece. I think Spielberg hated it because it hits too close to home – sometimes as artists we make things that we don’t understand or embrace until much later, where unintended meaning slips through.His biggest complaint and his thoughts on changing it – adding green screen/mocap – are wild to read about when to me the overt set reinforces the hallucination/dream framing of the entire movie. Hook with green screen would be terrible.Edit: wow, I did not realise how divisive this movie would be. Few years back my brother was doing electrical work at a lawyer’s apartment in Manhattan. The lawyer was having a full blown argument with his wife. My brother quietly continued to change out a dryer he was hired to do. In the United States, it’s almost impossible to hold government officials accountable when they violate your rights. This is because of a doctrine SCOTUS invented in 1982 called qualified immunity (QI) which immunizes all government workers from suit and is very, very hard to overcome. QI protects not just police, but all government officials from IRS agents to public college administrators. We believe qualified immunity is wrong, and that every right must have a remedy. QI shuts courthouse doors to those who have had their rights violated, making the Constitution an empty promise. The Constitution’s protections for our rights are only meaningful if they are enforceable.If we the people must follow the law, our government must follow the Constitution. That’s why we are working to defeat qualified immunity through litigation, legislation, and activism. My eight-year-old daughter has been playing bass for almost two years now and is getting pretty good. She was recently assigned a New Found Glory song (Vicious Love) for her school of rock, and liked it so much that she made a cover of it for her YT page.Ian Grushka (bass player) and the rest of the band saw the video and invited her to play the song on stage with them at their Las Vegas show last week. Even though there was nearly 3,000 people there, she wasn’t nervous at all and crushed it!
