Can I take a C# course which uses .NET and Visual Studio to learn .NET core and Visual Studio code?

Title says it all. I’m trying to get into learning my first programming language and I found an amazing course that is really beginner friendly and just suitable for me. However, the teacher is using .NET and Visual studio like every C# course out there. So should I still go for it if I can only use .NET core and Visual studio code because I will be using it on Linux?
