A Reminder to my Fellow Ontarians Regarding Disability

I am disabled and can’t currently work as a result. I receive the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) as my sole income.I just filed my taxes for the year and thought now would be a good time to remind others that disabled people in Ontario are expected to survive on less than $14,000 annually. That’s ~$1150 per month.I’ve seen people in several comment threads react with appropriate horror to this number and it occurred to me that a lot of people aren’t aware we’re forced to live in such poverty for having the audacity to be sick.So here’s my PSA: Disabled people in Ontario are barely surviving. We are not okay. In many instances we aren’t well enough to even advocate for ourselves. We’ve been hit HARD by this pandemic and have received NO help. We weren’t even eligible for CERB.In the upcoming provincial election, PLEASE give some consideration to how each party intends to handle funding for social services. Disability can happen to anyone at any time. Many people have become chronically ill due to this pandemic and many more will.Disabled people deserve better than poverty. Thanks for your time.Edit: Thank you so much for the personal harassment I definitely deserved to receive for talking about this. It gives me so much hope for the future. via /r/ontario https://ift.tt/XgDJzUm
